Abstract
The wildlife management plan for areas outside protected zones in Uganda delineates five strategic programs with specific outputs. These programs address ecosystem management, community conservation, ecological monitoring and research, capacity development, and governance and corporate affairs. Objectives include regulating fires, combating poaching, controlling encroachment, minimizing human-wildlife conflicts, promoting wildlife-based enterprises, conducting research studies, establishing management zones, and enhancing stakeholder coordination. Implementation necessitates the involvement of various stakeholders, with an estimated cost of UGX 91.7 billion over 10 years, emphasizing the need for effective communication and collaboration among governmental bodies, local communities, private sector entities, and civil society organizations to achieve sustainable wildlife management outcomes.
Uganda, in its Vision 2040, is dedicated to sustainable development by safeguarding natural resources like forests and wetlands, aiming to eliminate issues related to wildlife dispersal. Urgent measures have been implemented to protect the environment and natural resources, with the Vision outlining strategies for wildlife conservation and addressing challenges contributing to biodiversity loss within the country. The text is designed in 7 Chapters as follow: Background (1); Enabling policy and legislation (2); Critical eco systems outside UWA protected areas (3); Key challenges and achievements in the management of wildlife outside UWA protected areas (4); Conservation values and management purpose (5); Management programmes (6); Monitoring and evaluation (7).
