Abstract
The Uganda Pharmacy and Drugs Act governs the control of the pharmacy profession and the regulation of drugs and poisons in Uganda. It establishes a Pharmacy Board responsible for overseeing the profession, including registration, discipline, and maintaining standards. The Act mandates pharmacists to supply drugs upon valid prescription requests and allows pharmacists to provide first aid and treatment for simple ailments when access to medical professionals is not feasible. Drug regulation includes prohibiting misleading advertising, unauthorized substitution of prescription drugs, and supply of addictive or potentially abused substances without proper cause. Pharmacists must ensure that drugs are supplied only for legitimate medical, dental, or veterinary purposes and must maintain confidentiality of professional information. Disciplinary measures are in place for professional misconduct, including fines, suspension, or cancellation of registration. The Act also outlines the establishment and functioning of the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda to support the profession's advancement and regulation. The text consists of 29 Articles and 2 Schedules.
