Abstract
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics' Strategic Plan III for 2020/21 - 2024/25 emphasizes the increasing demand for more and better statistics as a strategic resource for national and international development. Section 9.2 of the Policy focuses on economic surveys and provides that agriculture holds significant economic importance in Uganda, contributing 24.8% to GDP and employing 72% of the population, with most living in rural areas. Despite its prominence, agricultural production largely relies on smallholder farming with limited resources, often at subsistence levels. To gather structural data on agriculture, Uganda plans to conduct a Census of Agriculture and Aquaculture in 2023, aiming to provide comprehensive insights into various aspects of the sector. Economic surveys, including Annual Agricultural Surveys, are conducted to gather current data on agriculture and inform policy-making, addressing emerging data requirements posed by Sustainable Development Goals and national development programs.
