Abstract
The Act defines the scope of veterinary practice, covering animal health, welfare, production, and public health, and emphasizes biosecurity. The Act requires registration of both practitioners and veterinary establishments, outlines qualifications, and provides for temporary registration for non-citizens or special assignments. It also sets conditions for licensing, renewal, suspension, or revocation, while establishing rules for private and public practice, certification of veterinary documents, and duties of practitioners to uphold professional conduct, report notifiable diseases, and ensure disease control. To oversee implementation, the Act establishes the Uganda Veterinary Council as an independent regulatory body responsible for registration, licensing, training standards, professional ethics, and discipline of veterinary practitioners. The text consists of 72 Articles and 5 Schedules.
