Abstract
Part 589 of Title 21 of the Federal Code of Regulations defines issues regarding the substances which use is prohibited in animal food or feed (substances with potential risk to the public health or which have not been shown by adequate scientific data to be safe for use in such food or feed). This Part includes provisions on cattle materials prohibited in animal food or feed, in order to prevent the transmission of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. This Regulation also provides for the listing of specific substances prohibited from use in animal food or feed.
