Abstract
The Action Plan National Program 101 Food Animal Production 2018-2022 is a national sectoral action plan of the United States of America. Its main objective is to conduct research to improve food animal production efficiency, industry sustainability, animal welfare, product quality and nutritional value while safeguarding animal genetic resources.
More specifically, it aims to provide science based industry relevant solutions in food-animal nutrition, reproduction, breeding and genetics, well-being, product quality and natural resource use; engage and partner with members of the food animal industries to facilitate transfer of technologies and research products to ensure that the full value and impact of research activities reaches American consumers; develop an integrated animal and microbial genomics research program that will help identify alternatives to antibiotics for enhancing production efficiency; ensure access to specialized animal genomics capacity and related technologies for all Food Animal Production research communities; foster scientific growth and individual leadership to enhance awareness of the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (ARS) scientific capabilities and accomplishments by other agencies, academia and industry stakeholders; and facilitate highly effective comprehensive research collaborations between ARS laboratories, food animal industry stakeholders, academia and other federal agencies to best leverage resources and expertise for maximum industry value and impact.
