Abstract
This chapter of the New Hampshire Revised Statutes improves the administration of state government by consolidating and providing unified direction of procedures, programs, and related functions in the field of public safety, in order to help assure the security and physical safety of the citizens of New Hampshire, including conferring emergency management powers. There is established the department of safety, an agency of the state, under the executive direction of a commissioner of safety. The department of safety, through its officials, shall be responsible for, among others, assuring fire, building, and equipment safety; administering and enforcing laws relative to emergency medical services; homeland security and emergency management; statewide enhanced 911 and emergency telecommunications services; and operation of the fire academy and firefighter training programs.
