National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Policy.

This Policy aims at providing guidance for the development and maintenance of of enduring and sustainable high quality saltwater recreational fisheries. The Policy identifies the following goals: protecting healthy marine and estuarine habitats; promoting saltwater recreational fishing for the social, cultural, and economic benefit of the nation; improving participation in, and enjoyment of, saltwater recreational fisheries through science-based conservation and management. The following six principles guide the implementation of the Policy: ecosystem conservation and fish stocks enhancement, with application of aquaculture technologies; promoting public access to quality recreational fishing opportunities; strengthening collaboration and partnership with state and federal management entities; advancing innovative solutions, with use of new gear technology, and next generation stock assessments; provision of scientific, social, cultural, economic, and ecological information; communication and engagement with the recreational fishing public.
