USDA Fruit Fly Exclusion and Detection Strategic Plan FY 2019-2023

The USDA Fruit Fly Exclusion and Detection Strategic Plan FY 2019-2023 is a national sectoral strategic plan of the United States of America. Its main objective is to consider the entirety of the safeguarding continuum from prevention at points of origin, exclusion at ports of entry, early detection through effective surveillance, and eradication or management, as appropriate.
More specifically, strengthen domestic surveillance and response capabilities to ensure early detection and timely mitigation of non-native fruit fly infestations; support and improve exclusion activities at the ports of entry and manage targeted and effective preventative release programs; strengthen the offshore regional approach to maintain effective barriers against the establishment and spread of Medfly in Mexico, Belize, and the Caribbean, and to suppress Mexfly populations along the U.S.-Mexico border; and advance the FFED Program by enhancing APHIS infrastructure, partnerships, scientific collaborations, and communication.
