Agreement between the State Committee on Environmental Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Committee on Environmental Committee and Land Resources of Turkmenistan on cooperation in the sphere of environmental protection and sustainable development.

This Agreement is aimed at expanding and developing cooperation between the Parties to address and respond to environmental challenges at the national, regional and global levels in the interest of the Parties. The Parties within their competence shall develop cooperation in the following areas: (a) conservation of biological diversity, including protection and restoration of populations of rare and endangered species, development of a system of protected natural areas; (b) climate change and adaptation to its consequences; (c) development of alternative energy sources; (d) monitoring of the environment; (e) protection of atmospheric air; (e) rational use of natural resources; (g) strengthening and improving the activities of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea; (f) studying and solving global and regional problems for improvement of the state of the environment in the areas of ecological disaster, first of all, those related to the negative environmental consequences of the drying out of the Aral Sea. Cooperation shall be performed in the following forms: (a) exchange of information, including legislative acts, and scientific research; (b) joint programs and projects; (c) joint conferences, workshops and exchange of visits; (and (d) promotion of joint initiatives.
