Presidential Decree No. UP-4041 “On measures to optimize the areas under crops and increase food production."

The President, due to the recurring lack of water over the past years, steady growth in prices on the world market for foodstuffs, and also in order to further increase production volumes and expand assortment of food crops grown in the country and ensuring on this basis the most complete satisfaction of needs population in food products and, ultimately, increasing income and welfare of the rural population, decrees as follows: (a) to reduce, beginning from the harvest of 2009, volumes of cotton raw production under contract farming (Annex 1); and (b) to increase, beginning from the harvest of 2009, areas sown by grains (Annex 2).
