Presidential Decree No. PP-170 “On measures to improve the system of growing fine-fiber cotton on a scientific basis in the Surkhandarya region.”

The President, in order to create high-yielding, early-ripening, sustainable to diseases and pests industrial varieties of fine fiber cotton, corresponding to the soil and climatic conditions of the southern regions of the count, as well as the development and implementation of resource-saving agricultural technologies, decrees to set up Research Institute for Fine Fiber Cotton Growing on the basis of the Surkhandarya scientific experimental testing station of the Research Institute of Selection, Seed production and Agricultural Technologies for Growing Cotton subordinate to National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture under the Ministry Agriculture. Research Institute shall be assigned the following tasks: (a) creation of new varieties of fine-fiber cotton and organization of their primary seed production; (b) development of scientifically based recommendations to improve soil fertility and the use of resource-saving agricultural technologies when growing new varieties of fine-fiber cotton; (c) training of highly qualified personnel for the agricultural sector farms, as well as advanced training of subjects growing new varieties of fine-staple cotton; and (d) establishing mutual cooperation with leading domestic companies, foreign scientific centers and educational institutions, attracting domestic and foreign grants and investments in the field.
