Abstract
This Act makes provision for the control of apiaries and beekeeping in general for the purpose of prevention and eradication of diseases affecting bees.
The Governor-General may declare pests for purposes of this Act and shall appoint an Inspector of Apiaries. The Inspector shall have powers of inspection as set out in this Act and shall be controlled by the Chief Agricultural Officer. All apiaries shall be registered and an owner or manager of an apiary shall notify the Inspector of the presence or the suspicion of presence of a pest affecting the apiary. The Act also sets out the regulation-making powers of the Governor-General and defines offences.
