Energy Action Plan for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The purpose of the present Energy Action Plan is to develop possible scenarios for St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ energy future from 2009 until 2030. The goals of the Plan are defined as follows: Goal 1) on Planning and Management - to consolidate well coordinated planning and management programmes to achieve sustainable supply and use of energy by 2015. Some of the Actions to reach this goal are to define responsible stakeholders with regard to energy issues; to establish a system to retrieve up-to-date information. Goal 2) concerns the Power Sector - Reduce projected increase in peak demand by 5% by 2015 and 10% by 2020, and strive to reduce power losses down to a total of 7% by 2015 and 5% by 2020. One of the Actions to be taken is to elaborate and review at biennial intervals a 10-year planning prospects for the electricity sector. Goal 3) pertains to Renewable Energy - Deliver 30% of projected total electricity output from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) by 2015 and 60% by 2020. Action to take: Ensure sustainable development of exclusive geothermal exploration and exploitation in the Soufriere Resource Area on mainland St. Vincent. Goal 4) on Petroleum Sector - Increase energy security and diversify the energy portfolio. Action to take: Revise existing regulations or propose parliament respective legislation to make provisions for ensuring adequate inventory levels exists to cushion any disruption in supply of petroleum derivates. Goal 5) concerns the Transport Sector – Reduce projected consumption of fossil fuels in the transport sector by 10% by 2015 and 15% by 2020. Action to take: Develop a comprehensive longterm transport strategy.Goal 6 regards Energy Efficiency – Reduce projected electricity generation by 5% by 2015 and 15% by 2020. Action to be taken: Investigate how the energy consumption sector is structured and what potentials exist for improving energy efficiency.
