Abstract
The National Climate Change Policy is a national policy with a cross-sectoral approach. The goal of this Policy is to build resilience to climate change and its integration into the national development agenda for low carbon and sustainable growth in order to achieve a high level of well-being and quality of life for Vincentians.
The vulnerability to the impacts of climate change will be reduced through building adaptive capacity and resilience, especially among the most vulnerable populations. The institutional framework will be strengthened for an integrated and coordinated response that engages all stakeholders for climate change adaptation and mitigation, and seeks to enable harmonization across sectoral policies and plans. A comprehensive system will be developed for information management, research and monitoring and evaluation to enable sound climate change decision-making. In order to achieve low carbon and resilient development, renewable energy measures will be adopted, net greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced and carbon sinks will be enhanced. The role of forests and other natural ecosystems will be enhanced as carbon sinks. The resilience of agriculture sector to the negative impacts of climate change will be increased. Coastal zone and marine area management will be strengthened to ensure the productivity and resilience of the coastal and marine zone through conservation, sustainable resource use and integrated adaptation and disaster risk reduction. To this end, climate smart agriculture and fisheries and sustainable crop, aquaculture and livestock practices will be promoted for food security and resilient livelihoods. Climate change preparedness and response will be strengthened for the protection of health status and the well-being of all Vincentians. Moreover, integrated waste management will be enabled for a resilient, safe and healthy population and environment. Efficient use and management of water resources will be strengthened to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable supply of water to the population at all times.
