Decision No. 186/2006/QD-TTg promulgating the Regulation on forest management.

The Decision provides for the creation, organization, production, management, use, maintenance, and conservation of Special-use Forests, Protection Forests and Production Forests, including land areas assigned by the State for forestry. Special-use forests shall be classified into national parks, nature conservation zones, landscape protection zones, and forests for scientific research. There shall be 4 types of protection forests: headwater protection forests, wind- and sand-shielding protection forests, breakwater and sea encroachment protection forests, and forests to protect the environment. Management responsibilities of Ministries and other authorities in respect of the areas are specified in the text.
