Abstract
This Decree provides for statutory micronutrients required to be added to food, or statutory food products required to be fortified with micronutrients and responsibilities of institutional and individual entities for fortification of food with micronutrients.
The Decree mandates the fortification of specific foods with essential micronutrients—iodine (salt), iron and zinc (wheat flour), and vitamin A (vegetable oils)—to combat deficiencies linked to health issues. The Decree applies to manufacturers, traders, and importers (excluding small-scale salt producers and exporters). Ministries of Health, Industry and Trade, and Agriculture oversee enforcement, including food safety management, certification, and inspections.
