Abstract
This Act provides rules for the trade from and to Vanuatu of endangered species of plants and animals as defined by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and in particular international trade in Appendix I specimen, Appendix II specimen and Appendix III specimen.
Export permits and import permits for defined specimen shall be issued by the Management Authority, i.e. (a) the person, body or body of persons designated by the Minister to be the Management Authority for the Republic of Vanuatu in accordance with Article IX of the Convention; or (b) in relation to any particular fauna or flora, the Management Authority specified by the Minister as the relevant Management Authority in respect of the fauna or flora. Introduction of any of these specimen requires a certificate from the Management Authority. The Act specifies conditions for the granting of a permit or certificate and conditions applying to importation, exportation and re-exportation of specimen. Other provisions of this Act concern exemptions, enforcement measures, penalties and regulation-making powers of the Minister.
