Abstract
This Act declares that the provisions of any of the Conventions to which Vanuatu has acceded and that are listed in the Schedule and any regulation, guideline or rules made from such Conventions, shall have the force of law in Vanuatu. The list of Conventions includes: International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974; Protocol of 1978, relating to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea; International Convention on Load Lines, 1966; International Convention for the Prevention of Pollutions from Ships, 1973 (MARPOL 73); Protocol of 1978 Relating to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973; Convention on the International Regulations for Prevention Collisions at Sea, 1972, as amended (COLREG 1972); International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969 (Tonnage 69); Athens Conventions Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea, 1974 (PAL 74); Protocol to the Athens Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea, 1974; Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, 1965 (FAL 1965); Protocol of 1976 to the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, 1969; and International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW 1978). Where the provisions of any of the Conventions to which Vanuatu has acceded conflict with the provisions of any other Act, the provisions of the Convention shall prevail.
