Abstract
The aim of this Policy is to provide a framework for the environmental health program to protect and promote the health and well-being of the population from environmental hazards and risks. The Policy describes eight key areas of intervention for the environmental health program, such as water, hygiene and sanitation, food safety, occupational health and safety, waste management, legislations and compliance, communicable disease surveillance, development control, and public health emergency and disasters. According to the Policy, the environmental health program seeks to achieve the following goals: to reduce the burden of environmental-related diseases and injuries; to enhance the quality of life and productivity of the population through improved environmental health conditions; to strengthen the capacity and coordination of the environmental health system and stakeholders; to foster a culture of environmental health awareness and responsibility among the population and stakeholders. The text is designed in 10 Sections.
