Abstract
Samoa’s Climate Adaptation Strategy for Health (CASH) sets a coordinated framework for strengthening the health sector’s capacity to manage climate‑related risks, outlining Samoa’s vulnerability to extreme events, climate‑sensitive diseases, and infrastructure limitations, and establishing five strategic areas covering governance, cross‑sectoral collaboration, capacity development, vulnerability assessment, and prevention and risk management; it prioritises risks such as extreme events, water‑ and food‑borne diseases, vector‑borne diseases, malnutrition and NCDs, and recommends measures including mainstreaming climate considerations in health planning, strengthening surveillance and laboratory systems, improving water and sanitation management, developing tailored early‑warning systems, and expanding health promotion and community preparedness, while assigning the Ministry of Health as focal point, calling for improved data sharing and research, substantial external funding, and robust monitoring and evaluation to avoid unintended consequences and enable periodic updates.
