Abstract
This Import Health Standard sets out the requirements to be met to enable biosecurity clearance to be given for the import of olive trees into Samoa from New Zealand. This Standard emphasizes the importance of phytosanitary measures to prevent the introduction and spread of pests and lays down the responsibilities of importers; the conditions of import; treatment of consignments for quarantine (regulated) pests and diseases; the requirement for a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the exporting country's National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) to verify the compliance with import health standards; packaging and labelling requirements; measures to prevent possible post-inspection/treatment infestation and/or contamination by quarantine pests; inspection by the Samoa Quarantine Service over the accompanying documentation on arrival; actions undertaken on the interception/detection of pests or contaminants; and the requirement to provide feedback to New Zealand’s NPPO of the interception and treatment of any quarantine pests or non-compliance with measures specified in this Standard. In order to facilitate clearance of the imported nursery stock at the border, documentation that enables an Inspector to determine that the consignment complies with the conditions outlined in this Import Health Standard should accompany the consignment.
