Exemption in terms of section 24(6) of the National Forests Act (Notice No. R. 399 of 2008).

With this Notice, the Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry exempts members of communities: (a) who live within a close proximity of a state forests and whose livelihoods depend on the forests, and (b) which have not entered into a community forestry agreement in terms of section 29 of the National Forests Act, 1998, from the requirements to obtain a license in terms of sections 23(l)(c) (d) and (f) of that Act for specified activities including felling, cultivation, hunting and fishing. The exemption is granted upon conditions specified in the Notice and does not affect discretionary powers of sustainable forest management of forest officers in charge of managing State forests.
