Abstract
This Act amends certain definitions and expressions of the 1975 Expropriation Act; it extends the power to expropriate to any minister responsible for the administration of works and land affairs; restricts expropriation by Transnet to expropriation under the Legal Succession to the South African Transport Services Act of 1989; facilitates the expropriation procedure; extends payment of compensation in respect of unregistered rights; extends penal provisions; further regulates offers and claims relating to compensation, disposal of the amount of compensation, payment of interest, of legal costs and the withdrawal of expropriation; repeals certain obsolete provisions; amends the Water Act, 1956; amends the Deeds Registries Act, 1937, so as to facilitate the recording of expropriation; amends the Legal Succession to the South African Transport Services Act of 1989; and provides for matters connected therewith.
