Abstract
Sections 7, 8, 9, and 9A constitute Part II entitled "Control over afforestation". Section 7 concerns approval by the Director General of Water Affairs and Forestry for the use of specified land for commercial timber plantation. Section 8 concerns the protection of natural water resources. The Minister may prohibit or place restrictions on planting of areas defined in a notice to be delivered to the owner of the land for the protection of any natural water source. Section 9 provide for the registration of afforestation rights. Sections 57 to 72 concern the National Botanic Institute and Schedule 1 defines National Botanic Gardens.

An Act to provide for the protection, management and utilisation of forests; the protection of certain plant and animal live; the regulation of the trade in forest produce; the prevention and combating of veld, forest and mountain fires; the control and management of a national hiking way system and national botanic gardens; and matters connected therewith.

Act No. 122 of 1984 as amended last by Act No. 63 of 1995.This Act has been repealed by the Forests Act of 1998 save for sections 7, 8, and 9 and the provisions referred to in section 73 (2) of that Act and section 34 of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, 1998. The definitions of "chief executive officer", " 'fund' in Part IX", "institute" and "national botanic garden" in section 1, and sections 57 to 72, 73 (1) (g) and 89 (3) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Forest Act, 1984 are repealed with effect from a date to be published by the Minister in the Gazette, which may not be earlier than the date on which a law or an amendment to a law is promulgated providing for the matters dealt with in those sections and that Schedule.
