Merchant Shipping (INF Code) Regulations, 2003 (No. R. 719 of 2003).

These Regulations give effect to Part D of Chapter W (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) of the IMO Safety Convention and in particular give effect in South Africa to International Code for the Safe Carriage of Packaged Irradiated Nuclear Fuel, Plutonium and High-Level Radioactive Wastes on Board Ships adopted by IMO Maritime Safety Committee Resolution MSC.88(71)(INF Code).
The Regulations apply to any South African Ship, wherever its location, and other ships being in South Africa including its territorial waters. These Regulations require every ship to comply with the requirements of the INF Code as it applies to that ship and survey and certification of the ship in accordance with those requirements. An owner or master of a ship must not accept INF cargo for carriage in a ship unless there is on board, and in force in respect of that ship, a valid Certificate of Fitness covering the INF cargo to be carried.
