Merchant Shipping (Radio Installations) Regulations (No. R 506 of 2002).

These Regulations prescribe requirements regarding the installation, maintenance and use of radio installations on board of ships, including fishing vessels. Some parts of the Act apply to a certain class of fishing vessels but exclude from its application sphere other types of vessels. The Regulations do not apply to a ship of less than 25 tons. The Regulations prescribe performance standards for radio equipment. They distinguish between Convention ships and non-Convention ships. Convention ships are passenger ships going abroad and cargo ships of 300 tons or more going abroad. “Cargo ships” does not include fishing vessels.
