Abstract
These Regulations of the Minister of Environmental Affairs, made under sections 48A and 86 of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003, provide rules for the administration, conservation and management of the Agulhas Front Marine Protected Area. The Marine Protected Area is entirely zoned as one Controlled Zone with three offshore areas in terms of the Act. In such zone no fishing may take place without a valid fishing permit, and fishing for corals is altogether prohibited. No person may undertake any activity listed in section 48A(1) of the Act, in the Marine Protected Area, unless authorised to do so in terms of these Regulations. Section 48 was inserted into the principal Act by the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Amendment Act 2014. The Regulations set out general restrictions within the Marine Protected Area. Restrictions are placed on the entry and use of vessels in the zone. A permit issued in terms of these Regulations may be suspended, cancelled or amended.
