National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act: Norms and standards for the inclusion of private nature reserves in the Register of Protected Areas in South Africa (No. 1157 of 2017).

This Notice of the Minister of Environmental Affairs, made under section 11 of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003, provides rules, norms and standards for the verification of the existence of private nature reserves, for the recognition and registration of such reserves and to safeguard their integrity. the reserves shall be included in the national Protected Areas Register and into the Protected Areas Database. The norms and standards also define the guiding principles for the management of protected areas and the rights and duties of owners of private reserves. Private nature reserves are, after the verification process, declared by the Minister or the Member of the Executive Council. Rules for the management of private reserves are provided.
