Notice on the request to register a water use (GN. 433 of 2000).

This Notice of the Regional Director of the Free State Province, made under the National Water Act, requires all persons who use water as set out in this Notice in the Upper Orange and Middle Vaal Water Management Areas to register their water use as defined in section 21 of the Act in accordance with regulation 3(b) of Regulation No. 1352 of 1999. Water use by members of an Irrigation Board or Water User Association in a distribution system and supplied by a Board or Association and taking water from a bulk supplier or a communal water scheme are excluded from the requirement of registration. Any person who fails to register shall be guilty of an offence. Activities for which registration of required include: taking of (ground) water, impeding or diverting the flow of water, alteration of beds or banks of a watercourse, irrigation with waste water, discharge of waste water into a water flow, using water for recreational purposes, disposal of waste affecting a water flow and storage of water. The quantity extent of water use which shall be registered is specified for two areas witha different legal regime.
