Notice on the request to register a water use in the Mvoti to Mzimkulu water management area (GN. 388 of 2000).

This Notice of the Regional Director of the Kwazulu-Natal Province, made under the National Water Act, requires all persons who use water as set out in this Notice in the Mvoti to Mzimkulu Water Management Area to register their water use as defined in section 21 of the Act in accordance with regulation 3(b) of Regulation No. 1352 of 1999. Water use indicated in Schedule 1 of the Act, water use by members of an Irrigation Board or Water User Association in a distribution system and supplied by a Board or Association and taking water from a bulk supplier or communal scheme, are excluded from the requirement of registration. Any person who fails to register shall be guilty of an offence. Activities for which registration of required include: taking of (ground) water, impeding or diverting the flow of water, alteration of beds or banks of a watercourse, irrigation with waste water, discharge of waste water into a water flow, disposal of waste affecting a water flow and storage of water. The Notice indicates quantities of water for areas in the Mvoti to Mzimkulu catchment and areas outside of the Mvoti to Mzimkulu catchment above which the registration requirement shall apply.
