Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 25(3) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998, give effect to the Clean Development Mechanism created under Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol, establish a Designated National Authority as required by the Protocol and an intra-governmental Steering Committee for the Designated National Authority and provide for related matters.
The Regulations define duties of the Authority and the Committee and set out procedures for the approval of Clean Development Mechanism projects, i.e. project activities proposed or established under the rules adopted under the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol. Such projects shall be approved by the Director General of the Department of Minerals and Energy.
