Abstract
These Regulations, made in terms of section 116 of the National Water Act no. 36 of 1998, apply to all government waterworks, and concern the use of government waterworks and surrounding State-owned land for recreational purposes. The Regulations define: bioprospecting; commercial fishing and related authorisation; dangerous object; hunting activity; introduction of species; recreational water use; resource management plan; restricted area; surface water sport; vessel. The Regulations provide for: control over government waterworks; access to government waterworks; use of government waterworks, including: navigation in or under the water surface area; application and approval of recreational water use; application and approval of events, photography, film production and advertising; hygiene and waste management procedures; damage to property; protection of biodiversity within the government waterworks; prohibited activities, including: hunting, killing, injuring, capturing or disturbing any fauna; implementation of resource management plan on access and use of government waterworks; suspension and withdrawal of access and use permission; offences and penalties.
