Regulations for the prohibition of the use, manufacturing, import and export of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (No. R. 341 of 2008).

These Regulations introduce measures and prohibitions so as to ban asbestos and material containing asbestos from South Africa.
The Regulations prohibit, with some exceptions, the importation, exportation, acquisition, processing, manufacturing and distribution of asbestos or asbestos containing materials. A person who wishes to import asbestos for transit, for research purposes or for disposal at an authorized disposal site, shall register with the Minister and report annually on activities. Operating importers shall submit an asbestos phase-out plan to the Minister. Transportation, packaging and disposal shall be done in accordance with existing rules.
