Replacement of General Authorisation in terms of section 39 of the National Water Act, 1998 (GN No. 1199 of 2009).

This Notice of the Director General of the Department of Water Affairs generally authorizes use of water in terms of the National Water Act. The authorizations replace the need for a water user to apply for a licence in terms of the National Water Act for a water use provided that the use is within the conditions set out in this Notice. The authorizations concern the diversion of water, the alteration of beds and banks or the blocking of a flow of water. The water use shall be subject to certain conditions and shall not apply to water used for the rehabilitation of any wetland or any water use within a distance of 500 meters from the boundary of any wetland. The Notice sets out various conditions for water use including rehabilitation after use and monitoring and reporting.
