National Gender Policy 2023.

The Zambia's National Gender Policy was developed through a consultative and participatory process involving key stakeholders representing the different needs and aspirations of both men and women across the country. The Policy aims at achieving gender equity and equality for inclusive development. The National Gender Policy was first formulated in 2000 and revised in 2014 and has led to increased completion rates of girls' education, reduced child marriages, and greater awareness of gender issues. The policy aligns with national development plans, Sustainable Development Goals, and international instruments like CEDAW and the Maputo Protocol. The implementation framework aims to create equitable access to resources and enhance women's participation in economic activities.
The policy aims to eliminate all forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV) through strengthened legislation and improved access to services for victims. It seeks to increase women's equitable access to economic resources, including land and finance, and enhance their entrepreneurial opportunities. The initiative targets poverty reduction among vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls, by promoting equitable livelihood support and financial access. Women's participation in employment will be increased by enforcing labor laws and creating equal job opportunities. The policy promotes women's involvement in governance and decision-making, aiming for equal participation in public and private sectors. It emphasizes the importance of gender inclusivity in science, technology, transport, and infrastructure development. The initiative aims to reduce gender disparities in education by increasing enrollment and retention rates for girls. Access to quality healthcare services will be improved, alongside efforts to enhance sanitation and hygiene services for women and girls.
