Abstract
This National Trade Policy acts as a comprehensive framework, aiming to bolster domestic trade and engage the private sector in regional and international trade, thus supporting Zambia's industrialization goals and contributing to its vision of becoming a net exporter of value-added goods and services by fostering competitiveness across domestic, regional, and global markets. Emphasizing the importance of removing trade barriers and fostering a conducive environment for private sector growth, it aligns with the National Industrial Policy. Moreover, the Policy addresses the intricacies of regional and multilateral trade agreements, ensuring that national policy initiatives prioritize the development and expansion of productive sectors while providing guidelines for both trade in goods and services and addressing cross-cutting trade-related issues.
The overall objective is to contribute towards Zambia’s economic diversification by promoting and stimulating a competitive trade sector in order to increase the market share in the global economy. The document's objectives and strategies center around tariff and non-tariff measures, trade defense mechanisms, and the promotion of trade in goods, while also emphasizing e-commerce, innovation, and leveraging intellectual property rights to boost trade and economic growth. It delineates specific targets for sensitization campaigns, training initiatives, infrastructure enhancement, and legislative updates to realize these goals.
