Abstract
This Act provides for the control of disease in bees and the conservation of bees found in the wild. The Act consists of 27 sections divided into 5 Parts: Preliminary (I); Control of disease (II); Conservation of bees found in the wild (III); Bee keeping (IV); General (V).
The Minister may declare disease areas under section 3. The Minister may authorize an apiculturist to destroy bees under section 4. Section 5 concerns the disinfecting of hives. Section 6 requires a beekeeper to notify an apiculturist regarding the occurrence of infectious diseases. Section 9 of Part III places restriction on removal or disturbance of bees, etc., found in natural hives. Sale of bee products found in the wild is declared to be an offence. Under Part IV restrictions on bee keeping may be introduced such as specification of authorized areas or prohibition of bee keeping in specified areas, notification of use of insecticides or herbicides. The Minister may declare a disease to be a disease for purposes of this Act pursuant to section 18 and may appoint a rural district council to be the appropriate authority for such area of Communal Land as may be specified under section 19. Other provisions of this Act concern appointment of inspectors, inspections, legal proceedings, and regulation-making powers of the Minister.
