Abstract
These Regulations provide for conditions for slaughtering of animals and birds and the health and hygiene requirements in slaughter-houses. Part II of the Regulations requires a slaughter-house to be registered and prohibits sale of any meat or offal unless obtained from a registered slaughter-house. Part III makes provisions in respect of the construction and facilities to be provided in the slaughter house. This includes security, perimeter fence or wall, lairage for animals and birds, building features and facilities for meat inspectors and grading staff.
Part IV contains provisions for slaughtering of animals and birds and mentions the accepted procedures and prohibited activities. Part V lays down the process for handling and dressing of the animals and birds, inspection of carcasses and preparation of by-products. Part VI provides for the packing, marking, storage and transport of carcasses. Part VII lays down the requirements for health and hygiene of personnel and the cleaning and disinfection of machinery, walls and floor etc. of the slaughter house. Part VIII provides for the powers of meat inspectors and the offences and penalties for contravention of provisions of the Regulations.
