Abstract
This Act concerns the control of the grazing of livestock. The Act consists of 68 sections, divided into 9 Parts: Preliminary (I); Establishment, control and administration of pounds and appointment of poundmaster and other staff (II); Management of pounds (III); Impounding of stock (IV); Duties of Poundmasters in relation to impounded stock (V); Poundmasters' fees (VI); Release, sale or disposal of impounded stock (VII); Special pounds (VIII); General (IX).
A local authority may, by notice in the Gazette, establish one or more pounds within its area (sect. 3) and shall control and manage the pound established (sect. 4). A Poundmaster shall be appointed for each pound (sect. 5). A Poundmaster shall keep a poundbook (sect. 9) in which stock shall be registered and which shall be open for inspection to authorized persons (sect. 10). Section 16 deals with the right of a landowner or officials to impound trespassing stock. Other provisions deal with cleansing of stock, disposal of diseased stock and treatment of impounded stock.
