Description

The purpose of eco-labels is to indicate the overall environmental preferability of a product or service in its product or service category. An eco-label programme may be Government sponsored; quasi-governmental (i.e., created and supported by the Government but run by a private entity); or privately operated, either for profit or not for profit (United States, 1998). In most eco-labelling schemes, third-party certification is mandatory. Source: UNEP/World Resources Institute (2021).
