Proposed definition in UNEP/PP/INC.3/INF/1: A plastic product or component shall be considered recyclable when it fulfils the following conditions: a) it is designed for material recycling, according to design guidelines or standards b) when it becomes waste, it can be recycled at scale and in practice, and it can be effectively and efficiently collected and sorted c) it can be sorted into defined waste streams without affecting the recyclability of other waste streams; and d) when it becomes waste, it can be recycled so that the resulting secondary raw materials are of sufficient quality or of equivalent quality compared to the original material and can be used as a substitute to primary raw material.
