Abstract
This Decree amends article 6 of the Regulation on the meat waste management. Amended article establishes that waste management of group I must be done following criteria of speed and safety, avoiding actions and incorrect manipulations that involve any type of risk. It prohibits to launch waste in other place than waste disposal area or, if available, in the warehouses or authorized areas for this purpose. It also establishes requirements to be satisfied in livestock farms for animal carcasses, which must be removed and taken to an authorized treatment centre. However, if corpses are in difficult areas, they can be buried, provided that the necessary measures are taken to avoid damaging the environment. Corpses found in areas of difficult access can also be used to feed wild animal species and particularly those of necrophagous birds that are in danger of extinction or in official protection programmes. In other production centres, the meat waste of group I can be kept in the same center for a maximum period of 48 hours, a term that can be extended if there is a warehouse with facilities of refrigeration. All production centres must contact a private meat waste manager to carry out the collection and transfer of meat residues to the treatment and disposal center.
