Abstract
This document is a legislative decree from the Government of Andorra, enacted on 8 April 2026, which modifies the regulatory framework governing the “controlled quality” regime for agricultural and food products, specifically regarding beef production.
The reform focuses on amending Article 6 of the previous regulation (originally approved by Decree 350/2022 and partially modified by Decree 93/2024). The main objective is to refine the technical parameters for fattening and slaughtering adult cattle (cows and bulls) and to establish a mandatory chilling room maturation period of 7 to 20 days—depending on the animal’s age and the specific cut—to improve carcass conformation and meat tenderness. The decree reinforces the centrality of the native “Bruna d’Andorra” breed for calves, while allowing cows of this breed and bulls of meat-purpose breeds to be included under the scheme, subject to a minimum fattening period of three months and specific housing density rules. It also maintains existing requirements for calves (e.g., minimum suckling of four months, slaughter age between 8 and 24 months, minimum carcass weights, pH below 6 at 24 hours, and a minimum 72-hour maturation). The regulation enters into force the day after its publication in the Official Bulletin of Andorra, repealing the previous 2024 amendment and any incompatible provisions.
