Abstract
This decree amends Andorra’s regulated quality scheme for agricultural and food products, specifically focusing on the production of “Controlled Quality Meat” from bovine livestock. The decree aims to protect local production systems, ensure product homogeneity, and add value to traditional Andorran farming.
The modification reinforces the requirement that calves and young cattle (vedelles, vedells, anolles, anolls) must be the offspring of mothers of the native “Bruna d’Andorra” breed to qualify for the controlled quality label. The text emphasizes the historical and environmental importance of this autochthonous breed in maintaining mountain pastoral practices, landscape, and biodiversity.
Additional technical requirements include minimum suckling periods, weight-based housing densities, slaughter age and carcass weight criteria, conformation and fat cover grades, pH levels, and mandatory chilling periods.
