Abstract
The present Law makes provision on the organization, functioning and financing of the veterinary service and inspectorate, in order to attain the following objectives: (a) improvement of animal health and protection against transmisible diseases; (b) protection of public health against zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals; (c) protection of animals against cruelty and suffering.
The Law consists of the following Chapters: (I) General provisions; (II) Rights and obligations of the State, animal owners and other persons; (II) Veterinary Service Organization; (III) The competences of veterinary administration and the collaboration with the police; (IV) Competences of veterinary inspectorate; (V) Activities, rights and duties of the Veterinary Chamber; (VI) Contagious animal diseases, measures for control, notification, prevention and eradication; (VII) Veterinary provisions applied to control the outbreak of contagious disease; (VIII) Preventive sanitary and veterinary provisions during the transport of animals and the products of animal origin; (IX) Preventive provisions for international transport of animals, products of animal origin and other biologic products; (X) Sanitary provisions for the production, processing and trade of products of animal origin for human consumption and animal use; (XI) Veterinary provisions on animal reproduction; (XII) Environment protection; (XIII) Expenditures for the portection of animal health; (XIV) The Veterinarian Research Institute and the State Laboratory for the control of veterinary bioproducts; (XV) Final provisions.
