Abstract
Regulation 593 of 2018 establishes the Protected Areas Management Committees as oversight structures organized at regional level, headed by the regional prefect and composed of members from the ministry responsible for environment, the National Agency of Protected Areas, the regional council, other local institutions related to the protected area management plans such as the local government departments of agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and energy, culture heritage, civil society organizations with environmental expertise, and representatives from the forestry and pasture owners located within the protected area. The Committee has oversight functions including the implementation status of the management plans in the protected areas , their compliance with the overall national priorities, recommending on investing opportunities, etc.
