Regulation No.8 dated 11.11.2009 on the managing measures for the sustainable exploitation of the fishery resources.

The Regulation sets out the framework for the conservation, management, exploitation and trade of the live water resources during activities in Albanian national waters or Mediterranean sea from Albanian ships and people. It’s composed of the following Chapters: Scope and Definitions, Protected Habitats, Protected Fishery Zones, Limitations regarding Fishery Equipment, Minimal Dimensions of the Maritime Organisms, Professional Fishing, Management Plans, and Control Measures.
The Directorate creates and maintains the national register of vessels in electronic form. Part of this register is also the list of vessels that have the Albanian flag and registered in the Albanian territory, and authorized for fishing in the ICMM area through the issuance of a fishing permit. Moreover, the Directorate shall not issue any fishing permit to vessels that were engaged in illegal, unregulated or unreported fishing activity in the ICMM area or elsewhere, unless the new owners provide appropriate documented evidence that previous owners and operators no longer have any financial, legal or beneficiary interest in relation to these vessels, nor exercise any control over them, or that their vessels neither participate nor are involved in IUU fishing.
