Governmental Decree No. 971-N validating State Program for the development of wheat seed production and import of wheat seeds for the period of 2010-2014.

State Program for the development of wheat seed production and import of wheat seeds for the period of 2010-2014 is a nationwide multi-sectoral policy document aimed at seed breeding and seed production development program for the period of 2010-2014. It establishes the list of registered wheat breeds authorized for import to the Republic of Armenia. The scope of the State Program shall be to ensure the national food security by developing national wheat breeds in order to substitute import of wheat. The objective of State Program shall be to ensure the level of self-sufficiency through the increase of the production of food wheat, to facilitate the efficient use of resources, cereals and crops, by increasing local production and replacing import. The expected results include: (a) increase of production output of wheat; (b) increasing the competitiveness of local high-yield seed production with a view of import substitution; and (c) promotion of wheat food seed breeding; and (d) sustainable seed production.
