Abstract
The 2017 Salzburg ordinance on the protection of plant and animal species establishes comprehensive legal safeguards for certain native and EU-protected plants and animals, listing them as fully or partially protected within the region. It prohibits the capture or killing of protected wild mammals and birds using non-selective or mass-effect methods—such as snares, poison, explosives, artificial lights, and automatic weapons—and bans the use of vehicles and aircraft for hunting. The ordinance also excludes invasive alien species listed under EU Regulation 1143/2014 from protection. Violations are subject to administrative penalties. The regulation implements key EU directives on the conservation of natural habitats and wild fauna and flora and on the protection of wild birds, reinforcing both regional and European conservation standards. The text consists of 7 Articles and has 2 Appendixes.
